Exercise has always been an effective and necessary distraction from the stress and routine of day-to-day life. It’s also a great way to try something new and enjoy group activities, especially at a time where we are all holed up at home, awaiting updates and trying to stay positive. Since we can’t go to the Ladies Gym in Riyadh, Pilates can be done from the comfort of your own living rooms.
Not only are Pilates Classes perfect for enhancing flexibility and strengthening core, but it’s also a great way to unwind with meditation, and practice breathing techniques.
It’s understandable that starting a new activity can make you a little bit weary, but Pilates is perfect for beginners and serious athletes alike.
3 things to keep in mind:
- Warm up and Stretch.
You are not about to run a marathon, or jump through hoops, but you are going to be pushing your body, and putting weight on your muscles. Prepare your body and take your time;
- No equipment necessary.
Pilates can be made fancy with bricks, circles and bands. But all you honestly need is a mat (or a towel) and your bottle of water. Make sure you’re comfortably dressed and in a good space;
Last but not least;
- Only you matter.
As long as you are using proper form, and listening to your body, it doesn’t matter if you call it “Child’s pose” or “Balasana”. No one is looking at you; no one is judging you, just go for it and enjoy yourself.
